Travelling together as a brotherhood without borders where jurisdictional boundaries dissolve in favour of shared values and mutual respect
In a stirring testament to the global reach and enduring spirit of Freemasonry, members of Nigeria Friendship Lodge No. 10035 recently undertook a fraternal retreat to Tunisia, a journey not defined by geography, but by the deeper bonds of integrity, respect, friendship and service.
Nine Brethren were joined by two visiting Brothers from Hatton Lodge No. 3041 and Gate of Billing Lodge No. 9309, under the Province of Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire. Together they were like a Lodge without walls, a living embodiment of the Craft’s universality, where jurisdictional boundaries dissolve in favour of shared values and mutual respect.
Freemasonry in Motion
Throughout the retreat, Masonic principles quietly shaped each moment. Whether navigating the bustling Medina of Tunis or gathering at a pre-agreed point with precision and discipline, the brethren demonstrated that the working tools of the Craft extend far beyond the Lodge room. Even in leisure, swimming, dining, or dancing, the spirit of fraternity prevailed, reminding all present that Freemasonry is not confined to ritual, but lived in fellowship.
The visit to the Amphitheatre of Carthage became a moment of solemn reflection. Amid ancient stones, the Brethren honoured those who had passed to the Grand Lodge Above, drawing strength from the legacy of those who laboured before them. It was a poignant reminder that while time may weather monuments, the principles of Freemasonry endure.
A Celebration of Unity
The retreat’s informal gatherings, whether at the resort’s bar or beneath the stars, became spaces for renewal and connection. In laughter and conversation, the brethren reaffirmed their commitment to the Craft and to one another. Even a pirate ship cruise, with its music and mirth, served not merely as entertainment, but as a celebration of life lived in harmony with Masonic ideals.
As the brethren returned to their respective Lodges, they carried more than memories. They brought back a renewed dedication to the tenets of Freemasonry and a deeper appreciation for the global Brotherhood that binds us all across continents, cultures, and creeds.
