From Pride of Essex Awards to a sell-out Charity Ball it was a week that perfectly captured what the Cross Keys Community Fund is all about

On Tuesday 14th October, the Cross Keys Community Fund (CKCF) were named runners-up at the Pride of Essex Awards, a well-deserved recognition of the group’s continuing efforts to make a difference across the county. Over the past five years, the volunteers have raised many thousands of pounds for local schools, charities, care homes, hospitals, and community groups.
The team, all volunteers and Essex Freemasons who meet at the Cross Keys Masonic Centre in Chadwell St Mary, were thrilled to see their work acknowledged among so many other inspiring organisations. The evening was made even more special as CKCF Chairman David Barton also received a runner-up and honourable mention in the Community Champion category for his dedication to local causes and civic life.
Just a few days later, the CKCF volunteers hosted their annual Charity Dinner at The Plough House in Bulphan, where over 150 guests enjoyed a wonderful evening filled with laughter, great food, and good company. The atmosphere was lively from start to finish, with music, dancing, raffles, and plenty of smiles as friends and supporters came together to celebrate another successful year. By the end of the night, an impressive £4,000 had been raised to support local causes.
Every penny will go directly towards helping schools, care homes, hospitals, and community organisations across Essex, a clear reminder of what can be achieved when people come together for a shared purpose.
Next year marks five years since the fund was formed, and the group are already planning to celebrate the milestone. In that short time, the Cross Keys Community Fund has become a trusted part of the local community, quietly helping where help is needed most.
Speaking after the event, Chairman David Barton said:
“It’s been a wonderful week for everyone involved with CKCF. To be recognised in this way means a great deal, but what matters most is the difference community engagement can make. When local people come together to support one another, the impact is felt far beyond the events themselves, it strengthens the bonds that make our communities thrive.”
From the Pride of Essex Awards to a sell-out Charity Ball, it was a week that perfectly captured what the Cross Keys Community Fund is all about, people coming together, sharing laughter, and making a lasting difference in their community.
