The Nigeria Friendship Lodge hold their installation ceremony with a dispensation allowing for the wearing of Native Nigerian attire

In a momentous event that will be remembered for years to come, the Nigeria Friendship Lodge No. 10035, that meets at Chingford Masonic Hall, recently held its annual Installation Ceremony on the 26th July for Olu Shonubi under a Special Dispensation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Essex (PGLE), drawing distinguished guests, members of the Lodge, and visitors to dress up in a Native Nigerian attire.
This bold gesture from the PGLE, showcased the multicultural nature of Freemasonry in England as well as highlighting the fact that Freemasonry is indeed a universal philosophy bringing men of diverse cultures together in unity.
The ceremony, conducted under the Special Dispensation, was a significant milestone for the Lodge as such a dispensation is only granted under specific circumstances, making this event both rare and highly significant. It demonstrated not only the trust and recognition the Nigeria Friendship Lodge has earned within Masonic circles and hi-lighted the importance of its mission.
This unique situation allowed for the installation of officers and other ceremonial proceedings to be held outside of the regular dress code, with full approval. It was a striking reminder that tradition, when paired with vision and unity, can adapt to serve a larger purpose.
The installation formally transferred responsibility to the new Lodge Officers who are now tasked with leading the Lodge forward. With dignity, purpose, and symbolism, each officer was invested with their jewel of office during a dignified ceremony; their dedication to Masonic service and community was clear throughout.
What made the day even more special was the strong turnout. From respected elders to vibrant youth, the diverse attendance reflected the spirit of unity that the Nigeria Friendship Lodge embodies. Distinguished guests gave encouraging speeches, and cultural performances added energy to the celebration.
The Nigeria Friendship Lodge continues to stand as a beacon of light within the community, a place where men of honour from diverse cultures gather to inspire, lead, and serve. As it builds bridges across generations and cultures, the Lodge remains deeply rooted in the Masonic values of Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Service.
