Ritual and Revelry: Macnab Lodge celebrate while boosting local charities

Macnab Lodge hold a blue table event with their inimitable style of fun and games while raising funds for local charities

The Macnab Lodge No. 10017 hosted a packed and memorable Blue table* evening at the Hutton Masonic Centre on 20 November, commencing with a passing ceremony for Richard Morrison-Butcher. The candidate was supported by his father also named Richard and a member of the Lodge. The well-executed ceremony drew strong attendance, including many Grand Officers, and set the tone for a night of ritual, fellowship, and philanthropy.

An evening of light-hearted entertainment followed with a subsequent programme of ‘fun and games’ creating a lively and engaging atmosphere. Members and guests alike enjoyed activities including virtual-reality shooting, Nerf-gun target competitions operated with the help of GB-level marksmen, a fish-racing contest, and the ever-popular ‘£1 coin toss to the bottle’. These informal competitions, full of laughter and friendly rivalry, were embraced enthusiastically by all.

The Festive Board was another electrically charged occasion with songs, many prizes and plenty of loquacious limericks delivered in quirky fashion by Macnab’s, Neil Beverley.

Alongside the entertainment, the Lodge welcomed speakers from their supported charities, the Poppy Factory and Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. Both charities each received a donation of £300.

A spot of stand-up comedy, from local comedian Graeme Mathews, rounded off an evening designed to bring people together in good spirits while raising funds for worthy causes.

By the end of the night, the combination of a Masonic ceremony and an energetic programme of entertainment resulted in two further donations that of £300 to the Masonic Fishing Charity and an auction raising £370 for the Para Charity (Parachute Regiment).

Once again, the Macnab Lodge has demonstrated how Masonic ritual, fraternity, and fun can come together to support vital work in the wider community.

‘*’ Blue Table is an event held primarily to introduce non-Masonic guests to the fraternity.
