A 50-year journey in Freemasonry celebrated, recognising enduring commitment, leadership, and an example that continues to inspire

At Orsett Masonic Hall on 28 March, brethren gathered to celebrate an extraordinary milestone in Freemasonry as Ian Keeble of Avilion Lodge No. 4879 was presented with his 50-year certificate.
The presentation was made by the Assistant Provincial Grand Master (APGM), John Singh, in a ceremony marked by warmth, respect, and admiration for a man whose Masonic journey has spanned five decades of dedicated service.
Born on 11 April 1947, Ian’s life has been marked by commitment and service both within and beyond Freemasonry. Professionally, he served as a Navigation Officer in the Merchant Navy before joining Sealink Cross Channel Ferries in 1977, the same year in which he married. He later retired in 1992, though retirement did little to slow his continued dedication to the Craft and the wider Masonic community.
Ian has enjoyed a distinguished Masonic career, earning the esteem of his peers through his commitment, leadership, and unwavering support of the Craft. His contributions over the years have not only strengthened his Lodge but have also left a lasting impression across the Province.
Ian’s Masonic journey began in 1975 when he joined Tylney Lodge No. 5856 that then met at Upminster Masonic Centre prior to moving to Orsett. Over the years, he became a highly respected and valued member of the Lodge, serving as Worshipful Master on two occasions, in 1983 and 2007. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Freemasonry, he was appointed the honour of Past Provincial Senior Grand Deacon in 2015.
Following the handing back of the warrant of Tylney Lodge, Ian’s enthusiasm for Freemasonry remained undiminished. In 2024, he joined Avilion Lodge, where he continues to serve as Chaplain, bringing with him decades of experience, wisdom, and dedication.
Throughout his 50 years in Freemasonry, Ian has exemplified the values and principles of the Order. His dedication serves as a shining example to others, demonstrating the profound rewards of long and faithful service.
