The Essex Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No. 8665 celebrate their 50-year anniversary with welcomed stewards and distinguished guests

On Monday 27th October, over 250 brethren gathered at the Southend Masonic Centre, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Essex Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No. 8665. The event welcomed Stewards and distinguished guests not only from Essex but also from across the Home Counties and further afield.
Attendees included representatives from other Provincial Grand Stewards Lodges and Provincial Grand Masters from neighbouring Provinces including, Neil Connolly, Provincial Grand Master (PGM) Hertfordshire, Richard Butler, PGM Norfolk, Ian Chandler, Past PGM Surrey and John Webb, Past PGM of Essex.
It is also important to acknowledge the presence of the esteemed guest, Russell Race, Past Deputy Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England.
As a mark to the outgoing Stewards, during the year 2024 to 2025, Dave Hickford proudly announced the results of their charitable efforts with a total raising well exceeding £11,000 - a remarkable achievement.
Among many memorable moments, the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the installation of our Essex Provincial Grand Master, Paul William Tarrant, as Worshipful Master. It was a deeply meaningful occasion, made all the more special by coinciding with the Lodge’s golden jubilee.
The Festive Board was a culinary celebration of local Essex produce, starting with Leigh-on-Sea cockles and ending with Southend’s iconic Rossi ice cream. Carefully selected wine pairings complemented each course, adding to the evening’s enjoyment.
Brethren enjoyed a mixture of reflecting on the Lodge’s past 50-years with lively conversation and convivial banter. Also, guests received a commemorative booklet, thoughtfully compiled by Gary Brown. The publication chronicles the Lodge’s history, shares stories of its founders and notable members, and includes a rich collection of photographs capturing decades of fellowship.
Looking ahead, the Lodge enters its next chapter with a dynamic team of Stewards, a full calendar of events, and a highly experienced Worshipful Master at the helm. The future promises continued excellence and enduring camaraderie.
