Community spirit shines through at Hamilton Court

Hamilton Court residents have shown that even the smallest acts can make a truly meaningful difference in the community

In South Woodham Ferrers, a remarkable display of generosity has come to light as residents of Hamilton Court, Woodham Ferrers a sheltered housing scheme run by the Masonic Housing Association, came together to present a cheque for £1,000 to Farleigh Hospice. Debbie de Boltz, Head of Fundraising for the hospice, was there to receive the donation.

What makes this achievement especially meaningful is not just the amount raised, but how it was achieved. Over the past year, residents organised a steady stream of small, community-led activities including breakfast mornings, tea and coffee gatherings, bring-and-buy sales, and modest social events.

Through these simple yet heartfelt efforts, everyday moments were transformed into opportunities to give back and embrace the Masonic ethos of relieving the suffering of others. Each cup of tea shared, and every homemade item sold contributed to a growing fund driven by kindness and a shared sense of purpose.

For many residents at Hamilton Court, disposable income is limited, yet this has not dampened their generosity. Instead, it has highlighted something far more powerful: a collective determination to support others, even when resources are scarce.

Their efforts stand as a quiet but powerful reminder that generosity is not measured by wealth, but by compassion. By supporting Farleigh Hospice, which provides vital care and comfort to those facing life-limiting illnesses, the residents have extended their sense of community far beyond their own walls. In doing so, they have shown that even the smallest acts can make a truly meaningful difference in the community.
