Creativity Ahoy: Essex Freemasons support Thurrock Scouts playscheme

Henry de Gray Lodge in partnership with Get Started Art proudly support the Arts & Crafts Tent at Thurrock Scouts Playscheme

Henry de Gray Lodge No. 6627, that meets at Cross Keys Masonic Centre, working in partnership with Get Started Art was proud to sponsor the Arts & Crafts Tent at this year’s Thurrock Scouts Playscheme*, providing over £1,500 worth of materials to give children from across the community, a week of exciting activities and new experiences.

The Playscheme, organised and run by the Scouts, once again delivered an outstanding programme, giving young people the chance to make friends, try new challenges, and enjoy the summer holidays in a safe and welcoming environment. Their commitment to the event is a shining example of how volunteering can make a real difference in the lives of local families.

The Arts & Crafts Tent proved especially popular. Children embraced this year’s Pirates theme, painting ships, making masks, and designing their own characters, all while enjoying a welcome break from iPads and computers, and discovering the joy of hands-on creativity.

In a strong show of community engagement, members of both Henry de Gray Lodge and Get Started Art attended the Playscheme, joining in the activities and sharing the fun with local families.

Steve Hall, Henry de Gray Lodge Charity Steward, said: “Supporting our local Cubs and Scouts has always been close to our hearts. They do an incredible job giving young people opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun, and we are delighted to stand alongside Get Started Art in backing this fantastic initiative.”

Dave Barton, Get Started Art founder, added: “We are proud to support the local Scouts and the brilliant work they do in the community. The Playscheme is a fantastic example of how volunteering can transform young lives, and it’s a privilege for Get Started Art to play a part in making it such a success.”

This collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to community engagement, giving children the chance to express themselves, build confidence, and enjoy positive experiences away from screens.

‘*’ A Scout's Playscheme is a short-term, fun-filled event for young people within The Scout movement, often held during school holidays, offering a variety of adventurous activities, games, arts and crafts, and team-building exercises in a safe and welcoming environment.
