A Special Honour for a much-loved Brother at Mistley Lodge

A rare honour for a much-loved Brother creates an unforgettable evening for the Mistley Lodge and its members

The final Lodge of Instruction meeting of the season on the 8th June at Mistley Lodge No. 2339 that meets at the Mistley Masonic Hall, Manningtree was expected to be a routine and informal evening of learning and fellowship. Instead, it became a moment that those present are unlikely ever to forget.

Having opened the Lodge and received confirmation that no further brethren were expected, members settled into what they thought would be a normal meeting. They were therefore surprised when Assistant Provincial Grand Master John Singh, was announced and entered the Lodge carrying a very special message on behalf of the Provincial Grand Master, Paul Tarrant.

The message was for Davie Hunter, a highly respected member of Mistley Lodge who recently completed his year as Immediate Past Master and has sadly been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness.

In recognition of Davie's dedicated service to Freemasonry and wishing him to enjoy his Masonic journey to the fullest for as long as possible, the Provincial Grand Master had authorised an immediate field appointment. Davie Hunter was appointed to the rank of Past Provincial Grand Standard Bearer.

Field appointments are rare and reserved for exceptional circumstances. The announcement was received with great emotion by those present, reflecting both the esteem in which Davie is held and the kindness shown by the Provincial Grand Master.

Presenting the honour, John Singh conveyed the Provincial Grand Master's warmest wishes and support. The occasion was marked by genuine affection, respect and brotherly love from everyone in attendance.

Davie was deeply moved by the honour, and by the support from his fellow members of Mistley Lodge.

Speaking later at the Festive Board, he reflected on how much Freemasonry had meant to him and said he would ensure that his children and grandchildren would always remember what the Craft had done for him.

For those present, the evening served as a powerful reminder that Freemasonry is about far more than ceremonies and meetings. It is about friendship, compassion and supporting one another through life's challenges.

It was a memorable occasion, and one that will remain in the hearts and minds of the brethren of Mistley Lodge for many years to come.

With thanks to Keith Ralph, Secretary of Mistley Lodge.
